We are versed in the format and footnote conventions in the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and Engineering, but we work with professionals from other disciplines to improve the form, style and clarity of their professional writing.

We are also happy to help academic writers produce accessible “crossover” or non-academic pieces. If you need guidance for translating your work toward a new or broader set of readers, we can offer conceptual and concrete suggestions, editing and proofreading.

Jen and Nancy are both Ph.D.s who are actively teaching and publishing within academia. For now, we have chosen to forego the pursuit of full-time, tenure-track positions in order to pursue additional interests and, in Jen’s case, raise a family. This allows us to teach the courses we want, write more widely, and still stay in touch with students and professionals in the academic world.

Having survived the tornado of graduate school – from the initial shock of the workload to the exhilaration of the Ph.D. defense – The Write Doctors provide compassionate consultation to our fellow graduate students. We offer a variety of writing-related services, including:

reading: Dr. Jen Schneider has been working for five years with students of all ages who wish to improve their reading comprehension and speed. She can assess your needs and develop an individualized program to help you become a better, faster reader, and to help you enjoy reading more. Students who have worked with Dr. Jen have decreased their study time while increasing their efficiency and success as students.

writing: Drs. Jen and Nancy have been teaching writing skills to college students for years, so we know how to teach you the skills to get unstuck and begin writing better than you ever have. We can work with you individually or in small groups at any stage of the paper: conceptualizing, drafting, revising and/or final polishing, and for papers of any length, including theses. If you can allow the time, your best option will be to meet with us when you’re just getting started so we can teach you the skills to write clearer, more coherent and persuasive papers from the get-go.

time-management: If you find yourself struggling just to keep your head above water in college, you may benefit from learning some concrete skills for managing your workload. The Write Doctors can help you learn to:
